Coronary artery disease occurs when there is damage, or trauma to the heart’s major blood vessels. Generally, the cause of this damage is the buildup of plaque. As plaque builds up in the arteries, they narrow, limiting the ability for blood to flow properly to and from the heart.
Symptoms
Coronary artery disease can range from exhibiting no symptoms in some, to prominent symptoms in others. The most common symptoms are moderate to severe chest pain, indigestion, nausea, profuse sweating, lightheadedness, tachycardia (rapid heart rate), and shortness of breath.
How we treat?
During your initial consultation, a number of tests will be done, in order to gauge your cardiovascular health. Once we have an accurate understanding of the severity of your coronary artery disease, we can determine an appropriate course of treatment. For the most part, depending on your condition, Dr. Kohani will recommend a number of changes to your lifestyle, including diet and exercise. In addition, Dr. Kohani, will use a combination of medication, angioplasty, and surgery, a coronary artery bypass.
The medications are generally statins, blood thinners, beta blockers, and calcium channel blockers.
