An Echocardiogram, often referred to as an echo or EKG, is a type of ultrasound test that uses high-pitched sound waves against the walls of your heart. Echoes of the sound waves are translated into moving pictures of your heart, seen on a video screen. If you are having chest pains or are recovering from a heart condition an EKG may be in order to examine the heart.
We perform EKG ultrasound test in order to properly evaluate the structure of the heart, and identify the direction of blood flow. Our technicians use a special probe and place electrodes along the chest wall and using electric impulses, view the heart from different directions.
Once the images and videos are produced Dr. Kohani will evaluate these images with you to insure proper function of the heart. The EKG provides evidence of proper blood flow within the arteries to the heart muscles and the thickness of the heart muscle.
